Date of photograph: Northern Vaults, Montrose
« on: Monday 09 May 11 17:02 BST (UK) »
Would anyone have any idea when the attached photograph was taken. It appeared on page 27 in the publication MONTROSE: Past & Present published by the Montrose Society in 2002. Perhaps the uniform of the man standing beside the horses might strike a chord with someone! From the dress of
the two civilians it appears to me to be dated sometime in the early 1900s/1910s.

Hi there

Have you tried contacting the Montrose Society and ask them about the photo?  Maybe they will be able to tell you who, why, when etc.
The man next to the carriage looks like a policeman to me. Probably
around 1900's as you mention.

hi all  :)

there is a Brown Horse Inn in Montrose on the 1881 census
so it would appear that the name changed after that date

Thanks ev for looking out for me, copyright-wise. Your reply prompts the following question; What was the name of the premises in the censuses of 1901 and 1911? .
Does anyone know?
