Cottage names on High Street, Handcross

I need help to decipher the attached clipping from a death certificate of a relative. I believe it to read ..."of _______ Cottages High Street Handcross Spinster Occupation unknown daughter of --- Lee occupation unknown Deceased"

I can not read the word before Cottages. I believe it to say 'Prospect' but I can not find a reference to Prospect Cottages anywhere. Someone with local knowledge of the area might 'see' a altogether different word and could possibly shed some light on where this person (my GG) lived.

Hi there

One thing about Handcross.  A pub called the Red Lion is on the High Street
and was refurbished in 2010 according to my search engine.  Why not try and find their telephone number and ring them to see if they know???
Its all detective work trying to find ancestors, saying that it looks like Prospect to me

What date was this?    A census record might have the name.  The local post office might be another source of information.
If in desperation I could go and look!

This was 1958. The record also says that my GG died in St. Leonard's Hospital, East Grinstead - which I can also not find any records of.
Since I know (or think I know) that this cottage was a Victorian structure, I will look in the 1911 census on High Street for a similar name. That's a great idea you had!! I'll post back if I find it.

There is a Paddock Cottage, High St  at RH17 6BJ and also Parish Hall Cottage at the same code

Electoral rolls might help too.  They will be at Chichester Record Office I would think though it might be worth checking at Lewes.

St Leonard's Hospital was in Railway Approach, on part of the old workhouse site, but I can't remember if it was in one of the original buildings or not. It was an old peoples home when I was at secondary school in East Grinstead. It certainly existed between 1951 and 1972.

The site is now housing and probably what is now known as St Leonard's Park.

Thanks to all for the assistance. Forester's clue led me to East Grinstead : Then and Now Author: MICHELL, Ron: GOULD, David in which there is a photo of the old hospital which was indeed once part of the original buildings of the old workhouse. It was demolished in 1982.

I have one further question though - assuming this person died in this hospital alone and without family present or involved, where would they likely have been buried? Mount Noddy? The year was 1958.

Thanks for the link to the book. I bet that is the one my wife lost though. I did look in a couple of others last night, but couldn't find anything.

I would say either Mount Noddy or Worth Crematorium (opened 1956).
