 Marriage Licenses

  Records of marriage licences provide information concerning some Church of Ireland
  marriages before 1845. Persons wishing to obtain a licence to marry without having
  banns called were required to enter into a bond with the bishop of the diocese.
  The licences and bonds do not survive, but the indexes to the bonds lodged
  in each Diocesan Court and the Prerogative Court are available in the LDS or Irish
  National Archives.

i have never been to a family history centre before but i might have to try visiting one some time in the future to see what help they might be able to give. the nearest one is about hour and bit away so will need to get together as much info as poss first.

Just to mention, although it's of very little help for you, there are some later Baltinglass CofI records on rootsireland.ie.  Births only from 1877 on so no real use. Marriages from 1848, so I can see they have Sara Wilson and George Barrett in 1856 but cant see whether they have any witness names without buying the record.

I have noticed there are a number of Nicholas Wilsons in Wicklow listed in Griffiths Valuation as tenants and having Trinity College Dublin and the landlord.   A number of these are in areas I believe my Nicholas (various generations) would be from.  Would anybody know if there is any significance to Trinity College being the landlord?  I understand it owned quite a bit of property and used the revenue to finance its operations but that is all I have found out thus far.   Is it a source of any potential information?

I am descended from probably at least three Nicholas Wilsons from Baltinglass.  The last Nicholas Wilson, my great grandfather, was born August 8, 1867 in Baltinglass and married Elizabeth Perry in Dublin in 1893.

His father was a Dairyman in Baltinglass, born 1818 and died 1881.  His father, also Nicholas, was likely born in 1787 and died 1873.
