Dodd Family,Brymbo-Broughton.
« on: Sunday 08 May 11 23:23 BST (UK) »
I take a keen interest in all my cousin's family trees,in this query I am looking for info to help my Griffiths cousin from Canada's tree.

Her Great-Grandmother was married as a Harriett Jones at Wrexham St Giles Denbighshire in 1878 to a John Griffiths. My cousin holds the Marriage Cert which states her father to be a Henry Jones.

However as I was looking for info about a Jones family from Brymbo also on this Board,I stumbled across vital info concerning this Harriet. It seems she was not born as a Jones at all but as a "Harriett" Dodd in 1857 at Brymbo.I first came across the marriiage of a Henry Jones at Wrexham St Giles in 1861 to a Sarah Dodd.

Following the find of Henry and Sarah Jones led me to a Sarah Dodd living in 1851 with her Widowed mother Elizabeth.HO107/2503/808/7.

The 1861 Census for Elizabeth and Sarah is particularly significant for it also shows a "Harriat" Dodd given as born in c 1858 in Brymbo as the Grandaughter of Elizabeth.RG9/4286/58/6.It does not need much imagination to show that "Harriett" Jones is the "Harriat Dodd from 1861.

My cousin holds now the Birth Cert for Harrett Dodd(1857) which shows no father but mother to be a Sarah Dodd. She also holds the Marriage Cert of Henry Jones and Sarah Dodd(1861) which shows Sarah's father to be an Edward Dodd.

Of course ideally the 1841 Census entry for Sarah would have been extremely useful but sadly apart from a portion of  the Wrexham Town Centre, the 1841 Census for the area is missing.

Following on from this then finding the Baptism of Sarah(1827-1831) is vital to making further progress with the family. This Baptism will be found in the Wrexham Parish as the Brymbo area was within the Wrexham Parish at this time.

I've just started researching my family tree, and have got back as far as the Dodd family from Broughton/ Brymbo on my Grandmothers side.
My Grandmother, Ella Griffiths' mother was Mary Jane Griffiths, nee Dodd. Mary's parents were Joseph Dodd (born 1836) and Joanna Dodd, nee Dodd (born 1843).
On the 1881 census the family is shown as living in Long Row, Brymbo.
If I understand correctly Sarah Dodd was born c1830, so would put her quite close, agewise, to Joseph Dodd.
Can you find any connection here?

First of all a very warm welcome to Rootschat.

My cousin's tree lists her Sarah Dodd to be the daughter of Edward Dodd and Elizabeth Matthias who married at St Giles Wrexham in 1816.She has Edward and Elizabeth born in Brymbo in c 1790.

There is a Tree on A******* which gives your Joseph Dodd as marrying a "Johanna" Williams in 1865.It also lists a daughter Mary J born in 1871,but with no marriage details for her.It lists Joseph's parents to be a Thomas(1800-1848) and Jane Dodd(1804).Joseph is shown with his widowed mother Jane in the 1851 Census living in Brymbo-HO107/2503/808/6.
