I had a similar response a few weeks ago when I queried some records that I was unable to view for Salford (Sacred Trinity Salford). I wanted to browse the Baptisms, 1872-1887 and told them that the first page loaded but all the others in the volume were unavailable. They fobbed me off with browser issues at first then that it is due to privacy restrictions and a 100 year rule. I queried the rule as 113 years have past and that I could view a marriage record with them for Stowell Memorial from 1924 but didn't get a reply. Stowell's records are now unavailable to view even if you are signed in.

Personally I think someone has complained from the churches as they'll receive no money for searching the registers for you now as they were/are coining it in at £10-£15 a go.

I suppose the 'privacy restriction' means, having the actual images on view - its a 'jobsworth' rule, because obviously you can transcribe stuff yourself and then put as much info as you like online - for example the latest batch of transcriptions on the Lancashire OPC (who I do a bit of transcribing for) includes Burnley Cemetery burials right up to this year. I think thecohens is right, its a fobbing off answer with some other issue behind it.

Slightly off-topic, but when I went to the LRO a while back, I was told that some of their baptism registers (actual ones that have not been microfilmed ) were closed from about 1930 onwards. "Its because there are some adoption details in them" they said. But I was fine searching 1912 to 1929, which of course is less than 100 years ago...

but thanks for the info Parmesan, Footo and Lord V  :D

I know Migky from these forums suggested right at the outset to download all images but it seemed like such a chore I didn't bother  ::)

Wish i had seen that thread when ever it was first posted, i would have spent day and night copying them ::)
Oh! well, will have to make do with what i have got an pray they come back on line( can't see much chance of that where money and the churches are concerned) Bet you wish you had botherd now  ::)

Just to let you know that today I've been able to access some of the images that were previously unavailable - I did have to log in though...  :)

Now instead of enjoying the sunshine I'm going to grab what I can before they disappear again  ;D

I don't get this "100 year rule" either. ???

If that is the case then why have I just transcribed (I am a volunteer trancriber) a batch of marriages for Familysearch.org for the county of Dorset for the year 1990??
