I don't get this "100 year rule" either. ???

If that is the case then why have I just transcribed (I am a volunteer trancriber) a batch of marriages for Familysearch.org for the county of Dorset for the year 1990??
Cathy

Hi Cathy

There are a couple of different issues relating to the problem of images. Firstly if the images relate to potentially living people then it may be in breach of legislation to publish the actual images on line and secondly there is the issue of copyright . There have been a number of discussions over the copyright of images of church registers and some dioceses or parishes have refused permission for the images to be published online. This is the reason why you can access some images and not others.

As far as England seems to be concerned transcriptions, even fairly recent ones, appear to be fine. I'm not sure that the same applies to all countries, Australia for example has quite strict Data Protection Legislation.

Thanks for that Andy. I know that in Australia we don't have the Census information available like it is in the UK.

I was (prior to your explanation) thinking then why am I transcribing these 1990 marriages if they won't be accessible for another 89 years  ;D

They seem to have done a good job on these images.  Tidied up and all seem to be accessible now.  The later dated ones have been removed.

Credit where its due.  :)
