sacread to the memory of William Render late of the Royal Horse Artillery who died 8 January 1819 age 34 years also Jane Render formally Nickolls died 6 April 1851 age 66 erected to the Memory of my beloved mother by your affectionate son James
my reading of the above indicates William Render was not buried there but may have been killed during the war

I can't see any sign of Army records for William RENDER, in the RHA,
only a Corporal William RENDER in the Waterloo Medal Roll, but he is in the 12th (or PRINCE OF WALES) REGIMENT OF LIGHT DRAGOONS

The only ofther information I can find is the following.

MARRIAGE
Tynemouth
William RENDER & Jane NICHOLS 21 Jan. 1807

BURIAL
 St. Andrew Newcastle
Geo RENDER Darnells Buildings St Johns, 28 Feb 1809 age 6m son of Wm (private Royal Artillery)

BAPTISMS
St. Andrew Newcastle
Thomas RENDER 16 Oct. 1814, parents William & Jane RENDER

Jane RENDER 18 Nov. 1816, parents William & Jane RENDER

St. Nicholas Newcastle
James RENDER 27 Aug. 1826, mother Jane RENDER

From this it would seem that James was not William's son,  as he was born seven years after William died, as is born out by the ages he gives in the census.

Royal Horse Artillery is his regiment.

He died in 1819, so which war would that be? Can't think of one in particular, certainly not a major one. He was only 34, so quite likely he was still serving and hence won't have a pension record, but natural causes/disease would be my guess.
Name interests: Boulton, Murrell, Lock, Croxton, Skinner, Blewett, Tonkin, Trathen.

hi

I am searching for my grandfather, George William Hart (b 1880, d 1935) who was a gunner in the RHA during WW1.  I have been unable to trace any regimental number or records.  can anyone help please?  Lots of thanks

there are a few medal cards for George W Harts,,,,there are 3 or 4 in the RFA,,,,But only one in the RHA

If you have access to Ancestry,,,,you can have a look at this card,,,,,you can also search to see  if the service record survives for that particular gw hart,,,then cross check the details with what you know about your man,,,,be aware though that roughly 2 thirds of WW1  service records were lost.

Also be aware that medal cards give basic info,,,,,name,,regiment ,,rank,,,medals awarded,,,,they do not usually contain any family info,,,,,this is why you will have to crosscheck with service/pension records  ;)

Hi gortonboy
Thank you so much!  I have been searching for a GWH in the Royal Horse for so long!!
The record for the GWH in the RHA quotes his rank as Driver (I think) but he was a gunner.
And I cannot find a pension record for him although I know he was pensioned by 1917.
But this is the furthest I've got so far!!  If you have any ideas on the pension record, I'd be very grateful!  but thanks, once again
