Maguires of Liberty Lane Dublin
« on: Saturday 07 May 11 13:37 BST (UK) »
Hi there, am looking for any info on the Maguire family who lived in Liberty Lane, Dublin in the 1800s in the parish of St. Peter. William Maguire (1786 - 1849) was a soldier, he was married to a woman called Marianne/Mary Anne. His mother might have been Margaret Maguire.

Their children : Ellen Maguire b. 1820s (who married Andrew Millar), William Maguire (1825 - 1868), a stonecutter, who married Esther McManus, Susan Maguire b. 1837, Elizabeth Maguire b.1830s who married William Cummins, Mary Maguire b. 1840, Samuel Maguire (1843 - 1862),

They were Church of Ireland.
Looking to fill in any gaps in this family tree, any help appreciated!
Thanks.

I presume you have already located possible details on the family on www.irishgenealogy.ie

what sort of other details are you looking for ?

Hi Shane, I have, yes thanks! I am looking for the elder William Maguire's parents' names and his wife Marianne's maiden name. Also, I wonder being a soldier, what regiment he was in. Also, when his daughter Ellen married Andrew Millar in 1847, her father is listed William Maguire, a sexton, not a soldier. If so, was he was a sexton in this particular church? A little confusing.

The parish records for St. Peter's go back to the 1670s, so if the marriage of William and Marianne took place in same parish it should be included. Early marriage records dont include father's names..  and unfortunately Church of Ireland baptisms dont usually include mother maiden surname.

Do you know if both William and Marianne were born in Dublin city ?

Liberty lane runs between Kevin Street and Camden row. No 22 is listed as part of a block of tenements in 1848 (Thom's), so no details given.

The parish church was on nearby Aungier Street... maybe that's where William was sexton ?

The church is listed in Thom's 1848, but just clergy are shown.

I'm not sure if they were born in Dublin at all. I can't find a record of birth for William Maguire, I'm more or less guessing his birth year of 1786 from his burial record and the age he was when he died. Guess I can't really go further back than this, no earlier info on IrishGenealogy website anyway. Yes, I'm guessing he was the sexton at his daughter's wedding alright at this particular church. He would have died 2 years later.
Thanks for your help Shane!

It's probably worth keeping an eye on the IrishGenealogy website as are there are plans to add records for further Dublin City parishes- although I think the next batch will be mostly, if not all, RC
