Missing death.....
« on: Saturday 07 May 11 11:05 BST (UK) »
Hope someone can help with suggestions!!!!!!

Colin McLean born 1861 in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, he married in 1882 to Isabella Strachan in Boddam. He appears on the 1891 census living in Peterhead, with his wife and bro-in-law. By 1901 I can only find Isabella living in Peterhead with Robert Bailey Bruce (Nephew). She is listed as wife, not widowed, Isabella dies 1907 in Peterhead, still married to Colin McLean. The informant on her death certificate was George Bruce (Uncle).
I feel I have searched everywhere for Colin, but found nothing on his death.

Can anyone help????? As a fisherman, could he have been lost at sea? Would a death certificate still be issued without a body???
McLean, Buchan, Bruce, Buchanhaven, Peterhead and Scotland.

All I could find was Colin on 1891 census, which you already have  ???

30 North St, Peterhead
Colin McLean 27 Fisherman
Isabella McLean 29
Robert Bruce 17

No obvious contenders on 1911 census either.

On scotlands people there are 15 deaths for colin mcleans who had been born around 1862.  None in the northeast though, but if he was a fisherman he may have been well travelled around many coastal places

Hi,
I found an ancestors date of death on his headstone but could not find his death certificate when I went to NRH or  on SP I eventually emailed SP and asked for their help and advice they could not find him either then a friend found him he had died of the coast of the Isle of Man and his death was registered there .
If he was a seaman you might have to look a bit further afield for a death,

Good luck.
