birth records
« on: Friday 06 May 11 17:16 BST (UK) »
Hi
I was given some information on a family tree and have tried to check the information is correct. I've found Walter Arthur Roberts born 8.7.1908 BMD Vol 2A page 475 and Betty Agnes E Roberts born the same date Vol 2A page 446. I was told they were twins, can I check this without getting the birth certificates? On the 1911 census it doesn't mention Betty I also know she died a year later but that census does say children born alive and children that have died and none are mentioned. Hope this makes sense!!

Hi

When twin births are registered, they either have the same page reference number or a consecutive number, there are 10 birth registrations to a registration page.

I would suggest that they aren't twins. The fact they could have the same birth date may be purely co-incidental. There are 5 Roberts births registered that quarter at Kingston. Roberts is a frequently occuring surname, there are 982 Roberts birth registrations in Sept 1908.

The only way to find out for definite is to purchase both certs, birth registrations before 1911 don't have the mothers maiden name on the index which may have ruled one out.

Can you help?
I'm looking for the birth records of Albert & Dorothy Roberts born Kingston. They are not on the 1911 census, there is also a birth for Edward in 1915 so couldn't be that year. I've been looking on Genes Reunited site and haven't had any luck. There mother's maiden name is Oldis.

have you tried using

freebmd.rootsweb.com (no www required)

I found these

Jun 1914
ROBERTS, Percy, Oldis  Kingston  2a 863

Jun 1915
Roberts, Edward R, Oldis  Kingston  2a 798

mothers maiden names aren't recorded in the index before 1911 but you can search by registration district or county which should narrow down the other searches.
