How Jude

And connected to the thigh bone ... Love it, and so true.

Just one question - did you ever find out where Amelia was born?  I've tried numerous States and name variations without success.

One thing I thought you and other readers of this post might be interested in - have you come across the Female Convicts in Van Diemen's Land database? It is relatively new and has a wealth of information about May Ann Heffernan and all her misdeeds.

The FCVDL also lists info on her children transcribed from official records and solves one little mystery.  Henry Charles Perry was born on 31.10.1846.  A transcriber notes that the mother's name was incorrectly entered as the child's name.  I always thought there were too many Mary's in this family.

Also, I'm not convinced Daniel Perry belongs to them.  There were at least 3 George Perry convicts in Tasmania at this time.  On Bridget's birth entry in 1949 our George is listed as a musician.  In Daniel's death entry, the father is listed as a sawyer, in the same year.  So think he probably is not ours.

I obtained George Henry's death certificate, but it was not a great deal of help.  The eldest son, William, supplied the details, but instead of providing the names of his father's parents, he provided his own!!!!  He did get the age right, though.  At this time,1878, he lists 4 children still living - himself (aged 35), Charles (33), Amelia (31) and Bridget (19) - plus 9 males who had died!  So got his sisters ages mixed, and obviously didn't have a clue about all the babies who died, because we know at least some of them were female.

Anyway, thought the above may be of interest

Cheers, Linda

Hi Lynda,
Will check my records this evening and get back to you. I know definitely that Amelia was born in 1859 which would have made her 19 not 31 in 1878

Hello Lynda,
sorry I took so long to get back to you.
I found Alice Adelaide's birth certificate Cert. in 1879 that states GGran Amelia was 20yrs at the time and was born in Inglewood Victoria. Therefore she was born in 1859
I also have a photo of Eliza Perry sole if you are interested

Cheers Jude
