My Cook relations from AIRYHOLME FARM?

Hi, Going back a bit a Ralph Todd b1759 Byers Green Married a Dorothy Cook bcirca 1769 at Airyholme Farm Yorkshire. They married at Auckland St Andrews Church Durham in the year of 1811.

They obviously were both a bit older than usual to be married and I am not aware of any children of the marriage. Ralph died in 1829 and Dorothy in 1851, they are both buried together in Auckland St Andrews. I am looking for parents and siblings if any of Dorothy. I am aware of the name association between Airyholme and Cook, but there is thirty years difference as to when they were there.

If anybody can put me on the right path to find her and siblings records that would be great.

Not much help, I'm afraid, but the place tends to have  beeen spelt Eryholme in more recent times,  (my family were tenant farmers in those parts in the 19th century) so the different spelling might open up a few more records. Having said that, I haven't come across any references in my quick scan through. I'll try to look again when I have a moment.

Dorothy was daughter of Richard, farmer from Ayton and had quite a few siblings.

Thanks Geordie and Nannawilk, I have had a look through the Transcribed BDM's and found all the siblings, thats great. I have added these to the tree along with Richard the father.

Funny that they follow on from From James's children a bit earlier, but i dont think there is any connection between James and Richard, well at least thats what all the Cook websites say. May never know unless I can find where Richard came from. He doesn't appear on the births in Great Ayton or a marriage for him so I have to assume he came farmed for a while then left. His children dont seem to follow on either. I might have a look at Durham records to see if the rest of the family end up there.

Just as an aside to this, Aireyholme farm is still there, at the top of Aireyholme Lane on the way up to Roseberry Topping 

Cook is also a very common name in this part of the country.

have you look at captain cooks wife's grave stone in the village church garveyard? its there - maybe a bit of info that helps - i was there just last week reading it - there is writing on both sides of the stone top to bottom [no sorry cant remember anything on it]

Well thanks for that, but it may be a long walk from OZ to Airyholme. Interesting that there is writing on both sides of the memorial. I wonder if this was added later?

I dont think she had much of a life, Cook was away so much of the time and the loss of all their Sons and then her husband must have been heartbreaking.

I may see if someone knows of what is actually on the memorial. It is funny because on a visit to Melbourne my wife and I visited Cooks Cottage which has been re erected in a large Park there, facinating how they lived.

if im passing again ill photograph it - its about 15 - 20 miles from me. im betting she was poor really - after all it was james who was away, collecting fame etc - wifes were treated very differently then and bank accounts? electronic transfer?naaaaaaaa
