I have been researching the Sumner family (of which I am descended) in the Formby, Burscough, Halsall, Lathom and Ormskirk regions and have come across the Formby family a couple of times.
I managed to find some Formby names emigrating to Australia (all to Adelaide)
• William Harper Formby arrived in Adelaide aboard the ship “Alice Brooks” in 1839
• William Formby arrived in Adelaide aboard the ship “Davidsons” in 1843
• John Formby arrived in Adelaide aboard the ship “Constitution” in 1851
• Thomas Formby arrived in Adelaide aboard the ship “Constitution” in 1851
I add the above just in case this is not an avenue you have yet explored; Thomas Richard Sumner (and wife Janet, nee Crook and dau Mary Jane) and Henry, his younger brother (and my direct line) stayed with a John Formby when they first arrived in South Australia during the Gold rush. John Formby was to become a very well known and respected South Australian in shipping, politics and law.
This John was the John Formby with which the Sumners stayed not long after their arrival in 1852.
I hope this may be of some use to you
