birth details of a William Cork(e)
« on: Sunday 01 May 11 21:46 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help to confirm that my 4/greatgrandfather  William Cork who married in Ipswich, Suffolk, in 1755 and again in 1759 and died in 1791 at the age of 58 is the William Cork shown on family search as being born in 1733 to John Cork and Elizabth in Dartford Kent?

Hi

Why do you think he could have been born in Kent?

Hi Rosie
I have scoured all local resources that I can find and know that at least two of his sons were freemen of Ipswich through being shipwrights and Dartford was also a shipbuilding town.
family search only shows two possible connections by date and the other is Norwich which I have drawn a blank on.

You can look through the parish registers online for Dartford to see if there is any death/the family remained there etc. http://cityark.medway.gov.uk/

Hi

The problem with familysearch is that is not complete for the whole country.
However there is a marriage on there for a William Corke at Hoo in 1763 that could just as easily be the one born Dartford.  :-\  he was baptised Hoo 16 MAY 1742

Casaguildi has made a very good suggestion about searching the Kent registers.  ;D
