Looking for advice on how to track down living relatives of ancestors who came from Clonmel in Tipperary. Is there a particular site which deals with Clonmel records?

Thanks. I wouldn't want to fall foul, so where is the best place to find records of ancestors who came from Clonmel, I have some names already, but know nothing about them. Names are all CLEARY, all from Clonmel. Anywhere dealing with Clonmel records?
Best wishes
Steve Cleary

It depends very much on the dates you have for your ancestors - if they lived after the start of full civil records then you should try the BMD Index (available on familysearch) and the 1901/1911 census returns.  If they lived before this then you would need to check for church records. To do this you need to know the family religion and which parish they lived in, so you can check what records are available.

see : Introduction to Irish Records

......

what confirmed details do you have on your Cleary family ?

You would need to establish links to your ancestors family before trying to trace any family members forward in time - e.g. parents names, dates of birth or marriage, townland, parish etc

There are a number of different Cleary families listed in Clonmel on the 1901 census - see : link  (There could be others in nearby rural areas)

Hi there...

I would be very interested in Cleary's from Clonmel.

My Gt Gt Gt Grandmother was Bridget Cleary, and she married Alexander McMinn in 1846 in the Old Scot's Church in Clonmel.  All her children were baptised in St Peter's & St Paul's.

Update on search for Cleary's in Clonmel....
I came across a record of a marriage held at SS Peter and Paul for my great-great grandparents, Richard Cleary and Margaret Lloyd on 15 April 1863, which didn't give details on address, occupation, age or parent names. I'm chasing these up. A baptismal record for a Richard Cleary dated 18 October 1842 gives the parent’s names as John Cleary and Sarah Neville. I'm not certain that they were my Richard’s parents, only that they fit the date given.  The other clue to me is that there is a story of the family owning a shop in O’Connell St, Clonmel – I am led to believe at one time, there was a store there owned by a John Cleary which fits the name given for Richard’s father. A long shot, I know.....
