Hello all.

I need help to find anything about John William Knowles born in 4 Knowles yard skerton, Lancaster in 1894, his father was William Knowles. there may have been a possibility that he moved to Wales but not really sure, don't know if he ever married and don't know when he died.

I think i found him on 1901 census in Liverpool, its called Beacon Lane Orphanage in Everton. On the census he's the only one not from Liverpool so i think this is him. I have tried to send you the census but its to large.

John Knowles Scholar age 8 Lancaster Lancashire.

I found another one in Skirton Lancaster aged 5,father William,Mother Annie.
This might be of Interest:
John William Knowles enlisted in the R.F.A. Oct. 1912,lists his address as Skirton Lancaster.
Age given 18 years & 1 month,giving a birth of Sept.1894.
He lists his occupation as Hawker ( Greengrocer)
Lists his Father as William & mother Elizabeth also lists a brother Thomas.
Address at the time:School Yard,97 Mar/Man? St.Skirton, Lancaster.
He was discharged April 1915 as being unfit due to epilepsy which he stated he had for 3 years.
His statement says he first had fits as a boy aged about 14 & didn't have another until after a bout of sickness while in S.Africa,then had them 2/3 times a month until he was sent to France in 1914 where he received wounds to the neck & shoulder & was sent back to barracks in Brighton where the fits restarted.He was considered sound & fit in all other respects.

Thanks for that Jim, his mother was called Elizabeth not Annie so he's not one of mine. This man is my great
uncle, i don't know anything about him and sadly none of my relatives do either. John William Knowles was born
1st  Feb 1894. He is one of 9 children to William & Elizabeth.
also i have the army info on him, thanks again for that.
if you need any more info i will give it to you.

I too have been searching for information on a John William Knowles from somewhere in Lancashire have been looking in the Bolton/Astley/Atherton areas this man is my paternal great grandfather the only reason i mention it is that I have met a brick wall going backwards from my grandfather, all I know is that My grandfather moved from manchester to yorkshire don't know why or when but was somewhat estranged from his family by all accounts. My grandfather was born 1913 to a John william knowles and Elizabeth hulse but I am led to believe that John william Knowles in my tree died in ww1 however I am now wondering if it may have been his own father who was also John william but may have used the name William.
