McDonald family
« on: Monday 25 April 05 04:02 BST (UK) »
I am looking to find out when Andrew McDonald born in Ireland in approx. 1822 emigrated to Australia and also what ship he was on. On his death certificate on 20/10/1863 it shows his age as 41 years and that he had lived in Victoria for 22 years - I therefore presume that he emigrated to Australia in approx. 1841.
He was married in Melbourne Victoria in approx. 1850  to Ellen Comafort who also was born in Ireland (approx. 1837) - I would also like to know when she emigrated to Australia and what ship she was on. I am unable to locate Ellen's death, so do not have an approximate date for her emigration.
I would be grateful if some kind person can help me with this information.

Hi Wimmera

I noticed that Ellen remarried after Andrew Mcdonald's death, to Joseph WHITTA in 1864.

There is a death in the Vic indexes for an Ellen WHITTA aged 52 in Ararat 1883 reg no. 7166.  This seems a possiblity.

The vic online has a Andrew McDonald aged 22 arriving on the "Lysander" in 1841.

Cheers
Genni

Hi Genni,

Thanks very much for the information it is very helpful. I have previously obtained the death certificate for Ellen Whitta, but unfortunately she doesn't appear to be the same one who was married to Joseph Whitta as the certificate doesn't show that one as being married.

Thanks again,
Wimmera

Hi

Unfortunately I really cant help with Andrew McDonald but I can confirm his widow Ellen married Joseph Whitta as above

The information can be found in Vic BDM when you search their children

Joseph married Emma Teague in 1855 and Emma died in 1862 with 2 children 1 surviving

Joseph then married newly widowed Ellen in 1864 and they had 4 children 3 were registered with Comafort/Comfort and 1 was registered as McDonald

Ellen Whitta b1872 was not married as far as I can see

Ellen Whitta formerly McDonald nee Comafort died in 1883 aged 52 with no family info and no obit only a small notice in Trove regarding her death from liver disease
