hi all  :)

i did wonder if i had a connection to kate middleton
now it seems the connection may be on the other side

i've got middleton's in kincardineshire
"hard-drinking ruffian" , "notorious"(the evidence mounts  ::) )

could be about a millionth in line to the throne  ;D

I agree...my Kincardine Midldeton died drunk in a ditch!!

When I was about 5, we lived next door to a LARGE family of Middletons at the farm of Millplough. The father was Archie, whose wife went on her "annual holidays" to Charleton maternity hospital.  I seem to remember that some of them turned out to be "characters"

The Middletons of my home town of Cellardyke in Fife descend from a fisherman called Alexander Middleton from Gourdon. He married an Agnes Muir of Cellardyke. Several Muir siblings from Cellardyke married into a Gourdon family called Craig.

In Cellardyke, Eck Middleton had a yawl called "Good Samaritan" and was one of the last fishermen to fish out of Cellardyke when most of the others had moved to the larger neighbouring harbour of Anstruther.

I've just looked him up on Scotlandspeople. He died in 1954 aged 87. His parents were Thomas Middleton, salmon fisher, and Mary Murray; and his grandparents were Alexander Middleton, cotton weaver, and Ann Menzies.

Incidentally, it riles me whenever I see Kincardineshire towns like Stonehaven and Banchory described as in Aberdeenshire. Has Kincardineshire officially ceased to exist?

I'm afraid it has!  Kincardineshire disappeared into "Kincardine & Deeside district" of Grampian region in the 1970's, then when Grampian region disappeared, we're now left with Aberdeenshire. More's the pity!

Talking of St. Cyrus loons, a Christopher Moir, salmon fisher in St. Cyrus, married an Agnes Lindsay from my home town of Cellardyke in 1861.

And I know of Stonehaven/Cellardyke marriages too.
