McParland/lane/McFarlane - where'd they go?!
« on: Sunday 01 May 11 12:27 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find out what happened to an Irish Imigrant family - they fall off radar after 1876.

James (jas) McParland Ironstone Miner) marries Mary Hollowood in Forkhill Co. Armagh 1861

First son Francis born in 1862 baptised at Coatbridge St Patrick's

Then....
Bridget 1866
James 1868
Patrick 1872
Sarah 1874        - all born and bapstised Dalry

1876 Mary dies registered by her Husband in Dalry

Then...NOTHING, not a sausage, until 1890 when Francis marries in Broxburn. I can find no trace of the others.

I have scoured the 1881 census for any of them. Francis seems to have settled on 'McFarlane' but I have tried McParlan/lin/lane/land/Carlane/lin/land/Farlane/ling/land/Mac - ad infinitum
They just have vanished. Would really appreciate any pointers or help thank you.

I've found one Francis on his own in 1881 in stirlingshire - in home for the 'education of imbeciles' (laughs to herself) obviously I'd rather it wasn't him but could it be possible? :-\ Estimated DOB is 1866 four years out - suppose it depends how um...'challenged' he was?!

This Francis is showing in 1881 as born in Edrom, Berwick. Likely not your Francis I would have thought. Can't see this Francis b. Edrom in either 1871 or births on IGI to 100% tie him in.

When I look at all the records for him I have he is pretty all over the place as far as age goes - born 1862 in 1890 he says he's 25 when getting married 1891 he's 23 1901 he's 35 1911 he's 48 and his son registers him as 46 when he dies!
I'd say I was looking at a different person if it wasn't for all the family and maiden names matching!
But you're right I thought about the place of birth too - post 1891 he always says Airdrie, Lanark (actually born Greengairs baptised Coatbridge) so I am thinking that he'd probably have said that in 1881 too. They are a difficult lot!!

Where did mother Mary die in 1876? There doesn't seem to be any likely deaths for the children you have in Dalry up to 1881.
