William PRINGLE b. 1730

I see you're actually hoping to go back from the William of 1730.  I'd like to do that too!  From LDS records, I have a lead to another William Pringle born Hawick in 16.12.1711 that I speculate may be the father of the William you mention. The father of this William is John.  No other info.   Why couldn't they have had the odd names popular today - they may be easier to track!!

Inscriptions for Borthwick Wa"s Roberton No 8 In memory of  JOHN  PRINGLE< Shepherd who died at Milsington 20 January 1843 aged 47yrs also  SARAH  JOHNSTONE  his wife who died at Broadlee 4th September 1866 aged 74yrs also JAMES  PRINGLE  their son who died at Milsington 2nd September 1841 aged 14yrs.
No 11 There is Alexander GOW and his widow MARGARET PRINGLE (She died at Old Borthaugh 24th November 1872 aged 79yrs.
There is no trace of any other pringles in  Borthwich Ha"s or Roberton cemeteries which are only about 100 yards apart.

Hey, thanks Alan.  I am going to Scotland next week (with my partner who is taking his mother's ashes back to Selkirk where she was born (she was an Urquhart)).  As this is just a step or two from Roberton I plan to visit the cemetery.  I didn't know the two were close together so thanks for that.   John and Agnes were working at Toward Castle in Dunoon before they came out to NZ and I hope to get there too, though it looks like a fair way to drive.  Regards, Liz.

Kiwiprimgle Your mother must be a souter like me.Where are you about.? I knew an Urquhart who died and his widow still lives in Thornfield .The Pringle Park in Selkirk was gifted by a Pringle many  years ago and I lived in Clifton Rd next to the park. If you need anything let me know i live nearby.

Hullo Alan14578.  My parter has corrected me - his Urquhart mother is from the Larbert/Falkirk area, and his father (a Begg) is the Selkirk connection.  We're taking her to Selkirk as she was happiest living there before the family came to NZ in the 1950s.   He says yes, all souters!  Regards Liz.

Correction Gerald now stays in Selkirk and runs the Selkirk Colonial Soutars at the Common Riding. My fathers best man went to NZ in the 50s and was a LOCKIE and lived in Wanganui.

Alan, probably not a connection as Francis' surname is Begg not Beggs.   His father was Bill Begg - came to NZ in the 50s, and he had a brother Alf who stayed in Scotland, I think.  They're no longer alive but would have been in their late 80s now.
