Hi Ernie

You might be fortunate and someone may recognise these names from their own family lines  :)

Given the dates of your father and mother's births, probably the best way forward for you would be to order either the birth certs and/or their marriage certs, which are both outside the period where you can view them on line on the official pay to view site, www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

Have a look at these help pages from the site:

Statutory births: www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/Content/Help/index.aspx?r=554&402
Statutory marriages: www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/Content/Help/index.aspx?r=554&403

With the information contained on these certificates, you would be able to trace them back to their families and ancestors.

It does get easier the further back you go as more information and resources are available on line for research  :)

I am aware of a Duncan Grey (gray) Farmer born in Kilmartin Argyll 1803. His daughter Agnes was married to Alexander Leitch brother of William Leitch my greatx4 grandfather.
duncan Grey was married to Grace McTaggart and had Grace 1810, Agnes 1832-1868, Duncan 1814, Sarah 1834, Donald 1841, and Alexander 1843.
The family were living at Cragnish during the 1841-1871 Census.
Hope this helps

Thank you very much for your message to my post. It is very hard to know the information you have provided is suitable for me. I need to go nd get my father's birth certificate to actually determine where he was born.

More on the Gray Family
« Reply #6 on: Thursday 28 April 11 20:45 BST (UK) »
I have found out that my father Robert Mitchell Gray was born on the 25th January, 1922 at 35 Alexander Street, Alexandria. His parents Robert Mitchell Gray and Annie Gray (nee Hynd) also had three daughters, Agnes, Barbara and Annie. My grandparents I know were married in Dunfermline in 1912 so in the ten years in between that and my father's birth they moved to Alexandria. They must have moved back to Dunfermline before 1944 as my parents were married in Wellington Shropshire and went up to my granmother's in Dunfermline and stayed there ever since. What I'd like to find out is when they arrived in Alexandria and left to go back to Dunfermline if I can. Also to find out if the daughters were also born in Alexandria. Could anyone have any information to help me. Thank you.
