Site of Royal liverpool Hospital
« on: Wednesday 27 April 11 12:29 BST (UK) »
Hi Everyone,
Does anyone have any information about the planning and building of the present hospital in prescot street in the 1960's. Architects, building firms e.t.c.  I work in the hospital at present and there has always been a constant rumour that the hospital was built back to front from the original plans, i.e. the back should have been in prescot street. Seems a bit far fetched to me but you never know.
I went to SFX in shaw street and used to walk through the streets on which the hospital is built to catch the number 25 bus. A map of the former streets and surrounding area would be good.

Johnson.

Yes, the Rumours are True, the first Main Contracter went Bust, & the 2nd one nearly went Bust as well (main problems were because they kept getting all sorts of Updates & things needed to be ripped out & Replaced, also there was a Big Problem with Theft of their Building Suppies [@1-2million pounds a Year], some of this may be down to wrong printed Delivery Documents).

P.S.

I used to work on the site for a sub-contracter employer! ::) ;)

Their are a few Pics of it on Here:

Not very much online about it when it was being built?

Tysons was the 2nd contractor and the plans were indeed revised...it took TWELVE years to build because of cock-ups.it Started in 1966 and was finished in 1978..
It was built right opposite the old Liverpool Infirmary and this is at what is now the back of the Hospital...and it was originally the front ...(being opposite the old Infirmary)

They never fully take the cost in to account, it is as if all they like doing is 'Knocking things Down' (Whether they need to or not).

We have seen this all before in Liverpool (as in most big Cities), Whole Areas of Liverpool were leveled from 1958 to @1970 (All in the name of 'Progress').

The biggest effect of all this was the Scattering of Communites & Families. (My own relatives & freinds were scattered from a half mile radius to every area of Merseyside).

P.S. Most of this was done in the name of Politics & Religion (Socio-Political Engineering at it's Worst).  :(
