Hello all,
I am currently trying to track down my grandmothers side of the family namely the KEARNS.
I am looking for a Michael John Kearns. He was born in Ireland abt 1855 +/-5yrs (county unknown) and became a Royal Marine.
He married Sarah PHILIPS (Orig. Kent) but I have no idea when they married. They went on to have 5 boys and 1 girl.
All searches have drawn blanks so far so I would be pleased to hear from anyone!!
Happy searching!
Vic
My email address is not working - sorry.
Research family names: Smith-Middlesex, Daniels-Portsmouth, Kearns-?Ireland, Luther-Ludlow, Probert-South Wales and a few more a long the way!

Try some variant spellings. I have one family (not related, I'm afraid) where the name has been spelled both KEARNS and CAIRNS.

This also seems to be a fairly common surname around the east of Ireland - Dublin, Wicklow, etc.

Have you tried searching the Royal Naval Seamen, their index includes a place of birth for the seamen.

There is one there that was born in Lacken, Mayo, and enlisted on 11 February 1880

Hi,
There is a collection of Kearns in and around Omagh, Co Tyrone, I married one.
They canalso spell their name Cearns, coming from west Tyrone /east Donegal region .
Jusy a thought to help muddify the situation
