Daniel & Martin MORAN/MORRAN b. 1850/60'S Muirkirk > US 1880's
« on: Sunday 24 April 05 18:10 BST (UK) »
Looking for information on 2 brothers:  Daniel J. and Martin J. Moran/Morran  (used Moran in US).  Their birthdates wander around but presume 1858-1864, may have been very close in age.  Parents:  Michael & Mary (Thomas) Morran both b. in Ireland approx. 1828. Other children: William, Mark, Terrance, Mary, Patrick, John,     Think both Daniel & Martin married in US after immi. in 1882-1885.

Daniel was a Tailor/Merchant in US.  But maybe Iron Worker in Lanark before going to US;  Daniel was a Brick Mason in Colorado.  Denver/Leadville Colorado was huge mining/gold rush area.

Martin m. in Illinois to Annie (nee MULLANE ???)  in DEC 1885
had 1 dau, Mary b. 1886 in Illinois and they moved on to Denver/Leadville, Colorado  and were there 1890 >>>.  Children b. in Colo.  Edward, Florence, Walter J, Agnes, Grace.
Mary m. Bernard Campbell.
Found 1 MULLANE Family in Chicago, 1880 :  Martin & Catherine b. 1830-1833, immigration prior to 1859.

Daniel J. m. Anne(a) F. (maybe Flynn/Flinn b. 1864 in Ireland, but met Daniel in Scotland?)  m. in 1882  but not sure where.
Immi. 1883.  All children b. in US after 1883:  Mary E. (Davenport), Edward D, Daniel B, Pearle (Chamberlain), Lillian F., Maud, Mable K, Lincoln R, Garnett (King) and Catherine.

Family legend does not include any other MORAN siblings  immigrating so maybe, others stayed in Scotland/UK or other.
Though family in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1900 is a possible.

If any of this has possible connection to your family, would love to hear from you.

MANYTHANKS!

Hello Kathy,

From the 1861 census index of Muirkirk, Ayrshire, the following families.

Morran Michael age 29y, born Ireland,
Morran Mary age 29y, born Ireland,
Morran James age 6y, born Muirkirk,
Morran William age 4y, born Muirkirk,
Morran Daniel age 3y, born Muirkirk,
Morran Mark age 1y, born Muirkirk.

On the same page but not same house this family,

Morran William age 50y, born in Ireland,
Morran Mary age 52y, born in Ireland,
Morran Mark age 28y, born in Ireland,
Morran Michael age 8y, born in Muirkirk.

On same page and almost next to above family, two young Morran's seeming to be living with someone else, could be a indexing mistake.

Morran Mary age 10y, born in Muirkirk,
Morran James age 6y, born in Muirkirk.

These are the only Morran's or Moran's, or any name like that living in this Parish, if you take the similarity of the first name's and that all the adults were born in Ireland, then I reckon there is a very good chance they are related.

Regards,
Jonn.

Hi

I too have Michael Morran born Ireland about 1827 who married Mary Miller also born Ireland, but I think they married in Scotland, although haven't been able to confirm that yet, their daughter Janet Miller Morran married Alexander Ross in Muirkirk in 1871 who were my 2 x great grandparents, is this the same Morran family?

Hi again
My first reply to regarding Morran family, there is in error in the name of Michael Morran's wife, it was given as Miller, wrong information given to me previously, I've since found out that it should Mary Thomas, therefore I think it is all the same family
