Original Cambridgeshire Parish Records

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to view the original parish records for a village in Cambridgeshire.  I believe there is an error in the transcriptions.  Why would one son not be baptised and all the rest of the family had been for many years prior to this birth in 1795.  I am at a standstill on this one. 
Any ideas anyone please.

I've come across similar situations with my family and wonder if they were actually baptised, but the baptism was not recorded in the parish register for what ever reason. Maybe the parish priest simply forgot to write it down.

I looked at some original parish registers at the Cambridgeshire Record Office when I went there a couple of years ago and the staff were very helpful. It might be worth contacting them to ask if they have the register you are interested in.

Have you thought of checking whether there are Bishop's Transcripts available in case the baptism is recorded there? Also have you checked the BVRI?

Many thanks for your reply Ceci.  I think the only answer is for me to phone the Cambridge office and find out if they have the original records.  Yes I have checked the BVRI a couple of years ago, maybe there is an new version?  We can't go there for a few weeks yet may be later in the summer.

I don't know whether there is a new version of the BVRI, so maybe someone else can answer that.

Alternatively you could see if the LDS have filmed that village's parish records, and then check the microfilm at your nearest LDS family history centre.

Hi All

Our ancestors had to pay for Baptisms/Marriages/and Burials just like we have to today except it was to the Church.

Therefore I suppose if times where hard children may not have been Baptised at the time of birth so it is always a good idea to see if there is a later Baptism (i.e. before a marriage).

Looking through the registers of olden times it shows when the Vicar/Curate etc used to go around his Parish and round up all the families that had not Baptised their flock at the Parish Church and get what we call a job lot done all at once. lol.

Other than that I agree that the Vicar may just have forgotten to note.

When looking through the B.T's watch out for the Vicar mis- transcribing the entry from the original register.

I have whilst transcribing entries myself found this to be the case.

I also make errors  but try and check my work 3 times before giving to the Record Office/Library.

Many thanks for all your replies and ideas!  I think the only answer is another visit to Cambridge Record Office.  I've got the micofilm for the village so have checked backwards and forwards.  I can only hope that it's been missed off in the transcription.
