James Brown or Isabella Brown: 1916 Renton & Dumbarton
« on: Monday 25 April 11 19:11 BST (UK) »
Looking for two Browns. In January 1916 my gg grandmother widow Mary Waugh (maiden name Brown), age 76, born Ireland in 1840, married in Bonhill in 1860, passed away at the residence of Isabella (Belle) Brown at  24 William Street, Dumbarton. The informant of the death was nephew James Brown of 7 Thimble Street, Renton.
Mary Brown Waugh was the dau. of of Charles Brown (d. Ireland pre 1851) and Isabella (b. 1821, Irl, d. 1857 Bonhill), known siblings were Elizabeth, b. 1838 Irl, and Catherine, b.1843 Irl.
I've tried for quite a few years to establish who "Belle" Brown was. There is no evidence that Belle was a sister, based on an 1851 census. Wife of a brother? No brother evident on the same census. On the succeeding census enumerations from 1861 through 1911, again no evidence of any relations.
I am hoping that someone could help connect up nephew James Brown with Belle - and then Mary Brown.
So far, I have gotten nowhere. Any ideas?
Brian

Hi Brian, I don't know if this is the same Isabella Brown, but I have an Isabella Brown who married my grandfather's Uncle Edward Owen.  In 1924 they lived at 73 College St. in Dumbarton.  I have a few Brown connections in Dumbarton in my Owen Family.
