James Roach 1818 - 1888
« on: Monday 25 April 11 16:21 BST (UK) »
I am wanting to get a birth certificate for my Great Grandfather James Roach to try to trace his family further .
All i know is that he was born in Ireland in 1818, his fathers name was Patrick, no name for mother . James married Ellen (or Honor) Connell in Annaghdown on 18-07-1845, they had a child that was born and died in 1846, and a son Thomas born in 1847, when his mother died aged 25 in 1847 (in childbirth ?),. James and Thomas moved to England, where James married Mary Gill on December 3rd 1853 at St Josephs in Preston Lancashire, copy obtained = father Patrick deceased!!,  i have the family in various census lists and know a lot about the children, 1 of whom was my Grandad,( except for Thomas who disappears after the 1861 Census!).
I would love to know any information on James, where born, mothers name, siblings, and anything about Patrick.. Its very difficult because of the assorted Roach families only using half a dozen christian names for 100 relations... and would be VERY grateful for any help or advice.
Thanks in advance,
Roach, Smith, Abbott, Rutherford, Menzies, - Galway, Preston, Edinburgh , Pawtucket, RI.

Civil registration of births started in 1864 so there will be no birth certificate.

To find Irish ancestors for such an early period you need to see if church records exist.
Have a look at Introduction to Irish Records and My Ancestor came from Ireland - where do I start?.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
