Wardley Street Wandsworth

Hi

I was wondering if anybody can remember the Smith family who lived at 24 Wardley Street in 1911.

There was Benjamin, Minnie and their daughter Blanche.  Blanche later moved to 36 Lydden Road and married James Bennett.

Any help or ideas welcome.

Im looking to see if there is anyone that would remember my dads family they are from wardley streey my great grandmother was called Caroline smith she had quite a few children can't remember all there names but my grandad was dickie smith hes brothers were Henry,owen, billy and rueben and sisters were Edith,Nancy and pashy .  Just looked threw the older posts and I'm sure  i may be related to lydengrove and r Haworth.

I went to school with Henry Gumble at the end of the 1950 to 60s

I would be interested in seeing the photo's.
I lived in Lydden Grove until 1868.
The mission you are talking about was called the Anchor mission.
I don't remember any gypsies in the area.
They were never even spoke about.
My family name were Smith and Wymark
When going down Waldley street the house on the left used to have back yards that used to go over to the next street.
At the back they had sheds where they kept their horses. This was Lydden road.
In the middle of the road was a small pub which had sawdust on the floor.
I remember them getting the piano out in the road and having a sing song.
None of the people ever locked their doors.
Down the bottom of Waldley street a man used to stand at his front door and take bets on horses and dogs.
All the houses in Waldley street and Lydden road and Lydden Grove were all condemed in the early sixties.
Most of the people that died in the are are buried in Magdalin road Earlsfield.

Dear Philip,

I had my Mum and Aunt with me today and we thought we would look up Wardley street.
They are the Lee family who lived in the first house on the left, your description of them made their day and they are still very beautiful with lovely complexions.( yes these genes did pass on to me, Ha!) You brought back many lovely memories for them, thank you.
