Hi have seen 1871 Census where Thomas puts his birth at ruabon denbigshire, have found a marriage entry for a william beech and an Elizabeth Roberts in Dec.1855 st. johns pontfadog, a few miles from ruabon, registers at wrexham.

1861 census there is a william beech 45 coalminer, bn ellesmere shropshire ,lodging with davies family in ruabon, denbigshire. There are a few spelling differences but it could be your william beech.

Thanks again. I found that same census entry only yesterday but I am awaiting Thomas's birth certificate to confirm his mother's name.

I found an 1841 entry for a William Beach, age 25. The census page gives the location as 'A detached part named Cefnymaes in the township of Blodwel, in the Parish of Llanyblodwel'. It's located only 6 miles from Oswestry but in the opposite direction to his later locations.

1851 has a William Beech at Cabin House Farm, Middleton, age 36

1861 has him in Ruabon, age 45, as a lodger

1871 he is in West Felton, age 57 living with his mother

1881 has a William Beach, age 67 living at School House, Ford (Atcham) and a wife Martha

1883 Q1 has the death of a William Beach in Atcham.

That all appears to point to the same person.

When I receive the birth certificate I will confirm whether that also appears to be the marriage for William. Pontfadog is less than 8 miles from Oswestry, going over the hills.

The question then is what happened between the marriage in Dec 1855, registered in Wrexham, the birth of Thomas in Dec 1856, registered in Oswestry and 1861 when Thomas is living with his grandparents and William is a lodger in Ruabon.

I have a copy of the birth certificate for William's son Thomas and his mother was an Elizabeth Beech, formerly Roberts, so the December 1855 marriage in Pontfadog does seem relevant. Thomas's place of birth is shown as The Rhos, St Martins, the same as his mother's residence recorded on the certificate.
On google maps I searched for The Rhos, St Martins and came up with Rhos Cottage, Quinta, Weston Rhyn, Oswestry. Is it a coincidence that the address is Quinta and records have him as born in Quinton, Oswestry?

Hi thanks for that, you know when you think that schooling wasn't compulsory until 1880 you can understand spelling mistakes and illiteracy back then, I think Quinta/Quinton are one and the same. I definitely think you've finally nailed it and found out what you want!!
