Hi Ros44
Unfortunately I'm still not any the wiser as to the whereabouts of Martin's s cottages. My grandmother Esther Byrne was living at 4 Martins cottages in the 1901 census.
She was living at 3 Church Lane at the time of her birth in 1895 although her brothers John(1878) and Michael (1880) were living at 5 Martins cottages at the time of their births. So it seems the family started their family life off in Martin's cottages , moved then went back in 1901 or there abouts. Her parents names were James Byrne and Elizabeth Kilbride.  My gr gr Grandfathers name was John Byrne ; so far I haven't come across the name Charles Byrne in my research.
 Regards
Athenagr

Church Lane was in Donnybrook, behind the police station & graveyard, its now known as The Crescent, Ballsbridge is only a few minutes walk from there

Hi Athena GR
Thanks for info.  I spoke with someone recently who indicated that the Pemrbroke cottages Shane noted on the OSI map recently were known as 'the Estate Cottages' locally?  On the opposite side of the river down from the Vocational Tech are 8 cottages also named 'Estate Cottages'?
I've located a cousin who seems to have some information and whom I'm  hoping to meet in the next couple of weeks re my gf Charles.  I'll let you know if there appears to be any connection to your James Byrne, but at the moment it seems unlikely.

Oh your welcome Ros44. I don't think there is a connection with James Byrne and Charles Byrne but I think there may be a connection with ( Nicholas Kerwin wife )Jane Byrne's  father Michael Byrne. I think that James Byrne and Michael Byrne may have been brothers but I need to do some more work on it before I can be sure.
Hope you learn lots of great information from your relative.

Found another Martins Cottages on the OSI map, they are SW of Leeson Park House between Chelmsford Avenue & Ranelagh Avenue, not in Ballsbridge but not that far away
