Hello Roy,

Was it 1911 English census that Michael states Thornhill?
Is that the only intimation of his birthplace that you have from census info?

The Thornhill that madri refers to is in Oughaval parish - near Westport on a map.

However, browsing for Thornhill also shows up a place called Knocknasgeagh which is also known as Thornhill. This is near Kiltimagh where the baptisms are that gracie mentions.

Where did Michael marry?  Have you got that info - he would have given his father's name on his marriage certificate.

regards
heywood

It is interesting that you say that Thornhill was near Kiltimagh.
His Work Friend who is still alive today says that is where came from .

Sorry- no idea re the sash and rosette. It's difficult isn't it without colour and there seems to be no writing etc on it to identify it.
Do you know where the photo was taken - Ireland or England? Or his approximate age when taken?
Was he active in the church? Could it be a church organisation?

I think the photo might have been taken in Handsworth,West Bromwich
he married in 1894 and lived in Beech tree Cottage near Kingstanding.
He was 28 when first recorded on the 1891 census.
