Have now got one of the pages from the familysearch index. It is a list of Proclamations for 1857 for St Ninians, and includes Peter Mitchell(of Airth) & Mary Duncan, on the 24th May 1857. This tallies nicely with the suggested Marriage date of the 5th June 1857. Now to find that Marriage record........

I have a Mary Duncan born about 1842 possibly Bo'ness. She has a daughter born Feb 1863 in same area, who she names Mary Duncan. Family rumor is that this child is illegitimate and that her father may have been a soldier that was killed. I believe Mary left her child Mary with her parents who I think were John Duncan and Helen Anderson, in Linlithgow and moved to Newcastle Upon Tyne as a domestic servant and then married in 1868 to Robert Scott Harkus in Newcastle and became step mother to his children.

It is speculation which seems to add up but there are still doubts. Did your Mr. Mitchell and Mary Duncan have children?
My earliest is Robert Gillespie born about 1791-1796 in Falkirk to Robert Gillespie (1768) of Falkirk and Margaret Millar of Carriden. He marries about 1817 to unknown woman and has Janet, Alexander, Margaret, Millar and David. In 1842 he marries Jean/Jane Melrose and has Catherine, John, Agnes and James. James is my ggrandfather. Robert dies 1868 in Falkirk Poor House. For info on my Gillespie family

My Mary DUNCAN(1833-1909) was the daughter of James DUNCAN & Janet GILLESPIE.
Peter & Mary MITCHELL had 9 children between 1858 & 1878 all born in the  Airth district. So not yours I'm afraid! Sorry!

Mitch
