Thanks so so much for the additional info  :D  do you know Adrian does the forest still exist?  i'm having trouble finding it on modern day maps .... its in Poland, right?  Do you think there would have been a prisoners encampment in the forest, or perhaps they travelled there daily for manual labour.  it doesn't sound as though the security was too strict as he managed to wander off to take his own life, and nobody knew how long he'd been gone/dead.  Poor guy.

PS thanks Geoff, 1/12 makes MUCH more sense than what I had - 1/18!  Cheers  :)

The forest is still there.
Paste these coordinates into Google Earth (if you have it installed) or Google Maps: 53.6497 16.1875
That will take you to Kluczewo/Klaushagen.
The forest is about 1.5 miles north of Kluczewo, up the main road (no.163). It extends east from the road as far as Chłopowo.

much appreciated adrian.  so it is in modern day poland then, i had thought that...but couldnt find anything on the royal forest.  thank you for your help  :)
