Hi Everyone. I know I am joining this chat way beyond the last posting date. However, I am very hopeful that someone will come across my post and be able to provide some information that may prove helpful in all searching the Youngs of Jamaica.
My family is from Hanover, Jamaica and we are able to trace our family back to two Edward James Youngs:
(1) Edward James Young abt. 1815 - 4 Nov 1914 Friendship, Hopewell, Hanover, Jamaica
(2) Edward James Young abt. 1827 - 4 Jun 1914 Askenish, Hanover, Jamaica
Our family has an oral story that we are the descendants of 3 brothers who came to Jamaica from Scotland to oversee plantations. This is a story that many Jamaican families have which may be a nicer way to explain how we ended up on the island. So I really want to find proof by way of documentation and DNA.
I have recently come across a DNA match on Ancestry that lists Ebenezer Young in their family tree. Has anyone on this board, who descends from Ebenezer Young, done DNA testing? We have family members on Ancestry, 23AndMe, Myheritage and GEDMatch. I would love to see if we match to any of your kits.
I look forward to any insight that anyone is able to share.
