Could someone tell me also if Farish is a sett of the Ferguson clan.
It might be a sept, but a sett is the thread count of a tartan design

As for clans, it may be said to be a sept of Ferguson in modern times, but don't forget that most of the 'facts' about clans, septs, tartan etc were invented in the 19th century. In particular, assigning certain surnames to membership of a particular clan is very suspect.

The Surnames of Scotland doesn't mention Farish specifically, but says that Farrie or Farries is from the Irish O'Fhearguis, meaning a descendant of Fergus, and it occurs in Dumfries-shire. The main base of the Ferguson clan was in Mar and Atholl, a considerable distance away in the days when the only available power for travel was muscles on land and wind at sea.
