Aronangh
« on: Saturday 16 April 11 00:14 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for information about Patrick Carr (b) abt 1835 in Aronangh, Ireland.  He lived in married Rosie McAnulty December 1857 in Newton Stewart Scotland.  I can't find Aronangh on any map.  Could someone help me identify where this town might be or advise if this is an incorrect spelling.

Thank you

Hi,
Using the Sean Ruad site the nearest I can find is ARRANAGH, a townland (small administrative area) in Co. Limerick south of the town of Newcastlewest. See http://www.thecore.com/seanruad/

Thank you for the response.  I received another message that suggested that it could be a misreading and that the town may be Armagh.  His wife was from Down, Ireland.  Would that suggest anything?

Well, Armagh would certainly be a lot closer to Co. Down.

Where did you get the townland name from in the first place?

I got the hometown name of Downs Ireland from a very kind person on the Scotland Board.  She responded to my inquiry regarding my gggrandfather, William Carr found the 1861, 1871 and 1881 census.  The 1871 census had the name of Down, Ireland listed as his mother's, Rose, birth place.  His father, Patrick Carr, was listed as born in Aronangh, Ireland.

If you can post the bit from the 1871 census that says 'Aronangh' we might be able to confirm the place name for you (you are allowed to post small portions of census for deciphering purposes).

That's really no help- it's the actual image you need to view from Scotland's People website as was already suggested-
