Dartford Cemeteries - AYRES
« on: Friday 15 April 11 15:26 BST (UK) »
Does anyone have access to the Dartford Cemeteries register. I would like to find the burial place of my brother who died at the age of just one year. His name was DANIEL AYRES and his death was registered in the Dartford registration district in 1936. Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Andy.

Hmmm, I'm not quite sure why they are charging £10 for most of which can be viewed online for free at http://www.rootschat.com/links/04ty/

Hope this doesn't mean that the "Way of Death" project is going to be removed :-\

If it was Dartford/Stone/Swanscombe then it should be online Andy but if it is another area of the Dartford district ie. Bexley which now comes under Greater London then you will probably need to contact the appropriate local council office.

I tried for 15 minutes to make sense of that website but failed.None of them are in order. After ploughing through 11 pages of 1935 and up to the end of April 1936,they suddenly change to 1937  ???

There must be some logic there somewhere, but it's escaping me at the mo!

I've not noticed that before Carol though I have only looked for odd ones in odd quarters etc..

I scrolled down to the relevant indexes for Dartford, Stone and Swanscombe but couldn't see him in 1936.  The only AYRES/AYERS I saw in 1936 was a Mary age 22 unless I missed it.

Andy- do you have an exact date of his death?

I notice from the indexes that it was in the June 1/4 (ie April May or June)

No , afraid not Carol. I will have to send for the Cert.
I tried using that website but couldn't get very far at all.

Thanks to all for the replies, Andy.

Andy, do you know where your family were likely to have been living at this time?

They were travellers at the time and they would very likely  have been on the large gypsy camp on Romney Marsh.(I think it was Romney)
