Hello Catherine,

Am trying to trace my Gt Grandfather, Joseph Eakins, who was born in Kingstown, Dublin, circa 1870s. His father, a John Eakins, was a "Spirit Merchant" in Dublin - but no details of his mother, or address.

Jospeh moved to Belfast to marry, circa 1890s (married in Shankill in 1899) and was killed in action at the Somme in 1916.

Hi Catherine,

Would you have any information on Marchbank in Dublin. I have several generations of Robert Marchbank - printers, valuation data and the odd marriage, but no proof of descent, although I have hundreds of pages of internet details on the various Roberts.

I am tracing back 2 (possibly 3) Marchbank brothers, all printer/compositors who came to England in the 1840/50s, Alexander and Robert - so it is a fair assumption that they are sons of the Robert Marchbank - printer of Dublin.

Any information gratefully received.

Thank you so much for tracing Joseph's birth date - this means so much to me as I can now build up his mum and dad's history!  :D

I don't suppose that his parents  Sarah and John would be anywhere recorded in Dublin would they?

Wow, thanks Audrey

So looks like our Joseph had a brother, John. Intrigued why their surnames would have been spelt differently -  would this have been an alternative way of spelling it?

The address is intruiging too Audrey - 1006 Dublin - not familiar with the layout of Dublin, but would this have been some sort of numbering for streets, bit like the way they refer to them in the States?

the mistake on the name could be down to the transcriber or that the records were poor and was difficult to read I find this a lot with Irish look ups  as for the address I am sorry I haven't a clue
