Hi Colin..you are correct...from what what I can determine from his discharge papers, with help on WWI forum a while back, and family info it is XVI...looks like text is obscure/changed on this image which had me wondering.
I found a recent 2nd medal card...so he has Victory & British medal too.
From a family story, my mum recalls - he was hit in the leg from a bullet that killed, and passed through one of his mates before exiting and hitting him in the leg. Only 3 survived from his unit (?).
This happened at flanders I am told.
6 Pieces of bone came out of his leg after respite in donegal over the course of a year odd..and he kept them in a little bag until one day, accidentally, one of his kids (or my gran) threw them into the fire.
On the rest of the detail I will cross my fingers and ask Kew to quote me...I was given an hourly rate before rather than a inclusive price ...so bit nervous.?
Many Thx
Paul
