Sorry Paul, but I think the writing on the card is quite clear, i.e. "VIa". There's nothing to suggest that there was an "X" in there at any time...

Are you sure you have the right records? I'm not an expert, but I would have thought that the red entry saying 'Name Erased' would mean that his records were revoked and there would be no medals awarded.

I think something is wrong on this MIC - and on high res it almost appears someone has retraced the wording as letters behind.
