Hello Scotmum, you kindly helped me before by finding No. 1) piece of information. How do I go about getting this marriage certificate?
2) How do I get Bella's/Isabella/Isobels's birth certificate?
The 1911 Scottish census records that her sisters Mary 8, Maggie 6, and Williemina 1, were born in Scotland and that her brother James,5 and
herself were born in Ireland. I remember my mother saying the family went between Ireland and Scotland for work.
3) I made an incorrect assumption, before finding the 1911 Scottish census, that John was back visiting Ireland; this must have been another
man of the same name. I was subsequently cheered to find that in 1911 John was living with Maggie and their 5 children in Broxburn,
Linlithgowshire; my mother was only 3 then.
In December of that year, their last child Sarah was born (I don't know if in Scotland or Ireland yet) and that some time after that Maggie left the family on two occasions. Finally John
had to bring up the 6 children on his own, with the eldest Mary as a mother-figure to the others, whether in Ireland or Scotland I don't know.
In 2013 I plan to search lists of names from places like childrens' homes and workhouses, as my aunt, wife of the late James (John's son), has told
me the younger children went into a home while the older ones, such as James, went to relatives.
Is 'Stoney Quarter', Slemish a name you would be familiar with? I've seen that it's proper name was Ballynacaird.
Thank you for helping.
Regards, Hazel
