You've already quite a few posts looking for these families which I'll list here in case anyone is interested. Probably best to keep this new thread for general advice, research information, etc. rather than research on the indiviual families.

Bridget Galvin, Cavan, (Cavan)
lookup Bridget GALVIN (Cavan)
Galvin, Bridget (Galway)
GALVIN, Bridget & Patrick (Donegal)
GALVIN, Bridget (Donegal)
John Gorman, b. 1839, Letterkenny. (Donegal)
McClafferty, b. 1842, Carrygrath, DONEGAL (Donegal)
ROSS, Armstrong & NESBIT Emily (Down)
Hennessey (Kilkenny)

Accept your advice - I'm trying tomake contact before I travel to Ireland & UK - not having a lot of success! I have immigration records - passenger lists  mainly - doesn't give a lot of detail - mainly parish / county, not very definite. I'm finding it very difficult to get into Ireland, even for 1 generation but that is the situation! Thanks,
Kev B.

To find Irish ancestors for such an early period you need to see if church records exist.
Have a look at Introduction to Irish Records and My Ancestor came from Ireland - where do I start?.

You probably won't be able to do much research in Ireland until you get exact locations (parish if not actual townland). There are links to Resources (on and off line) on the county boards as well as Ireland Resources board.

Kev
As a suggestion I would start with what I'd like to get out of the trip i.e. more information or ancestral insights - when I get home what would I most like to have brought home with me??

If you would like more information then a concentration of time in Dublin where most records are held would probably be most beneficial. Here within a small radius in the city you can access many records not available on-line

If it is an insight into where your ancsestors came from then a good solid plan of where you will go will be needed with such a spread across the country.
Starting with a realistic idea of where you will visit and how you will get there!!
If you could contact people in the areas first (in local businesses etc) who could confirm if cemeteries, churches, etc are accessible and in good condition and not waste valuable time in some areas over others.

I hope you have a wonderful and useful trip where ever it brings you!

In Co.Donegal the best reference source is The County Library situated in Letterkenny town.
This is how Carrigart is spelled.
There is also online Donegal Genealogy Resources.

For Co. Cavan there is a Genealogy Centre located in Cavan town.

Every county has a County Library, some have Genealogy Centres to which Genealogy queries are sent.
Cavan town to Letterkenny is about 100mls.

Hope you have a wonderful trip & find at least some of the info.
