I found my Grand Uncle, Henry James CROSSAN, arriving in Quebec Aug 11, 1923,
single. I found his name on passenger list of Montclare returning to England 15 Dec 1923. However I have also found a marriage to Josephine Spencer, in Liverpool England (where he lived before and after this trip) dated Jul-Sep 1923 and a child, Harry, born in same period to Josepine Spencer and Henry James Crossan.
On the passenger list for the return trip there is a small 'x' beside the place of embarkation. Does anyone know what the 'x' indicates, eg - Was he a missing passenger? I believe he may have taken an earlier passage back to UK, but I can't find him on the usual lists. Does anyone know if there are records of people entering England on merchant ships or other vessels which may not usually have taken passengers?
I realize that there could be more than one Henry James Crossan in Liverpool, and I could order the vital records to find out, but I would like to be more sure, ie find an earlier return trip, before I buy the records.
Any other ideas would be greatfully received
Thanks
Carol
