Hi Julie,
Welcome to RC.
I'm sure you'll get a lot of help but you need to be a bit more specific.

Please supply more info..... names, dates of birth, marriage etc.  Where are you stuck?  Any particular brick wall?

Plenty of things we could suggest but need a bit more to go on.

Dave

Quick look on http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk shows 15 Wardrop births in Stonehouse pre 1855, to 3 sets of parents...
John Wardrop / Jean Hamilton  1818 - 1839
William Wardrop / Janet Frame  1812 - 1817
Hugh Wardrop / Janet Borland  1843

Hugh might be son of John / Jean

You could try looking at IGI for these families, census results, those specific births on SP (ScotlandsPeople).
On SP, look for marriages / deaths.

A lot of advice folk here can give you will depend on what you already know.
As I said before, tell us what you already know.
What resources do you have access to?

I'm signing off now, but others will be here to help.

Dave

PS - I have some vague connections to Wardrop via my paternal line (Forrest).  That's the main reason your message caught my attention.  I'm fairly sure I have some pics of Wardrop graves but I don't have access to my main PC at the moment to check.

Are you sure of your of your facts?
There is one Elizabeth McLaren Wardrop.  She was born in Dailly, Ayrshire in '42.  No other Elizabeth Wardrop born '41-43 in Scotland.(according to SP which is usually VERY accurate).

You won't get more info online but could order the record for £12 from SP, the link I mentioned.
GROS reference is 585/00 0019

If someone is going to the registry office in Edinburgh, or Park Circus in Glasgow, they might be able to look it up for you.

Ordering the document from SP at £12 could be worth the money.  It will tell you a lot of info, particularly, the full names of the parents.

The middle name McLaren would suggest that THIS Elizabeth has an ancester called McLaren - does that surname appear elsewhere in your family?

That's going to take you back to the 1920s approx.  From there, with the info you will have, should get you back a fair bit...early 19th century if not more.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I've had a look on SP for marriages of Elizabeth Wardrop.  From 1952 (i took an extreme), there have been 19 in Scotland.

Again, if you can tell us more, we can narrow that down.  Do you know your Mum's married name?  We could look for deaths too (sorry, but that's a fact).  There have been 4 Elizabeth Wardrop deaths in Scotland since '52.... surnames.. Sharp, Braidwood, Frew and Barbour.

What are you hoping to find Julie?  Will help if I can but need to know what you are looking for.

Hi Julie and Dave

Welcome to RootsChat Julie  :)

As Dave has mentioned, lots of people on RootsChat willing to help with info. Just need to take care with events and names. RootsChat is not a forum for tracing living people or events that are too recent  :)

Hi Julie

As Dave mentioned, the only entry coming up on the birth index on Scotlands People for an Elizabeth is in Dalry Ayrshire. It may be that the family moved to Bellshill after Elizabeth's birth and that's where she considered home in later years.

Have you managed to obtain your parents' marriage cert to at least be able to confirm her father's name so that you can be more certain on your searches?
