JEFFERY - Plymouth
« on: Thursday 07 April 11 14:45 BST (UK) »
Hi - I'm desperately trying to find Thomas Abbott JEFFERY (Abbott being middle name).  Born circa 1790.  Sons - Edward 1816, Frederick 1819, Thomas 1817 and William Abbott born 1821. All born in Plymouth.  I can find nothing on father Thomas Abbott JEFFERY.   Curiously, there is another William Abbott JEFFERY born in 1821 in Linkinholm, Cornwall !!  I believe Abbott to be a family name.  Can anyone please help?

I think you mean Linkinhorne ...
Eccles (Hoylake / Exeter / Plymouth)
Hicks (Devonport, Plymouth)
Grafton (Exeter, Devon)
Harris (Marazion, Cornwall)
Collard (Yeovil, Somerset)
Johns (Devonport, Plymouth)
Lyle (Bude, Cornwall)

If you obtain the Devon FHS marriage indices 1754-1837 for the surname JEF*R* (allows for spelling variants), you may be able to locate a marriage between a JEFFERY and an ABBOT(T), possibly indicating the origins of the family. It's very cheap, can be done online and you don't have to be a member of the DFHS (although this is something I would recommend to all researching in Devon :-)) Go to http://www.devonfhs.org.uk/indexes.htm for details. While you are at it, get all baptism (1813-1839) & burial (1813-1837) indices as well - you never know when they might be relevant!
