Susannah Mary Pearce
« on: Tuesday 05 April 11 03:59 BST (UK) »
Would anyone be so kind enough out there who may have access to either St Clement Dane's Westminster or St Margaret's Westminster records be able to ascertain or authenticate the birth of a Susannah Mary Pearce around the end of 1831 of beginning of 1832.  Her parents are George Pearce and Mary Pearce (nee Bull).  She was married in St Clement Danes and had a sister born in St Margaret's West, so I am presuming she was born in one or the other.  Her census records indicates she was born in Westminster.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi

The registers for Westminster parishes are held at Westminster Archives. They are not part of the set of parish registers placed on the internet by Ancestry, which are deposited registers held at the London Metropolitan Archives and the Guildhall Library and some Bishop Transcripts of Westminster parishes held at the LMA (BTs yearly copies of registers made and sent to the Bishop - not always done and not without errors).

St Clement Dane registers are indexed on the IGI

Tony,

St Mary Magdalen in Bermondsey is not in Westminster, however thanks for your help.  According to one of the census records she was born in (baptised at) St Margaret's Westminster.

These records are not on ancestry yet so I guess I will just have to wait unless someone has access to these records.

Regards

Michael

Hi Rosie,

Thanks for that.  I have that record from ancestry.com.  Louisa Jane is Susannah's younger sister and born in the same place, St Margarets Westminster.  Their father was a musical (brass) instrument maker, so that is correct.

Unfortunately the parish records for this church going back earlier aren't on ancestry.com yet, so may just have to wait, unless I go over to London and search them myself.

Thanks for your help anyway.

Michael

Hi

It would require Ancestry to approach Westminster Archives to have the same sort of contract with them that they have with the LMA and the Guildhall Library. As yet there is no information that those sort of negotiations have even been aired. Ancestry rather has its hands full indexing the massives of early registers held at the LMA and Guildhall Library. There is much work still to be done on those registers.

Thanks Tony,

If it is okay with you I might get you to check a couple of others I have that were born in the same part.  Which particular parish in Westminster do you have access to?
