My grandfather John Tobin McGee
« on: Tuesday 05 April 11 02:59 BST (UK) »
Need help finding info on my great grandmother Mary E. Tobin married to Thomas Francis McGee (my great grandfather). She lived in Natick MA.... Trying to find out her mother and father's names, how many kids she had (know John Tobin was my grandfather and he was probably born around 1901.). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,

Have a look at the familysearch site - they have a lot of Massachusetts records.   In Massachusetts Marriages -

Mary E. Tobin, age 22, daughter of Edward J. Tobin and Bridgit H. Kinigin.  Married to
Thomas Francis McGee, age 23, son of Frank McGee and Mary Dolan
Natick - Jan 4 1887.

The image of the register is available for free on their site.  They are the first marriage on the page:

If you search the Massachusetts births/baptisms, you will find some children for Thomas and Mary.  Just scroll down until you get to the Massachusetts records - and have fun searching :)

Hi again,
From the familysearch links I mentioned above:

In Mass. births 1841-1915 (registry images available)
Mary - 1890
Ann Catherine 1902
Robert 1905
Alfred 1907
Arthur 1907
There is also a Thomas 1889 with parents Thomas F. and Mary E. in Natick.  Father a shoemaker.   He sounds like a good possibility too.

In Mass. births and christenings (no images)
John - 1898 (mother transcribed with last name of Tobni here)
Ann Catherine - 1902
Alfred -1907
Arthur - 1907
Thomas - 1889 (no mother's last name)

So - from what I can see, there are at least 7 McGee children.   I gave the birth years, but the actual birthdates are in the records.

However, there is a tree on A---y that says there are 11 McGee children and Mary Tobin McGee's parents are Michael Tobin and Hannah Newberry. ???   I am not sure that they have the parents right (see the image of the marriage registration in my previous post), but the other children may be worth investigating.   They have all 7 mentioned here PLUS Edward 1887, Frank 1892, Joseph 1894 and Helen 1911.  The Mary on their tree is 1892 and has a different last name.

I suspect Bridget's surname may be transcribed incorrectly on the marriage record.  Looking at the image, it looks more like Kerrigan.  Also on the familysearch site are birth records for Ana Tober (image looks more like Toben or Tobin), daughter of Edward "Tober" & Bridget Kerrigan, born Natick on 16 Dec. 1872.  There is also a birth for Sarah Tobin, 22 Feb. 1875 in Natick, daughter of Edward Tobin & Bridget Karigan.

There is also a death record on there for Bridget Kerrigan Tobin, wife of Edward, who died 1 May 1896 in Natick.

Thank you ShellyEsq!  Unfortunately, I'm having some problems with my computer connection and it keeps kicking me off the family search site.  I've registered and I think it's just a network thing.  It will iron out and I'll be able to sort out some of the mysteries (maybe:)
