SMITH - Edmonton Burial
« on: Friday 22 April 05 23:05 BST (UK) »
Hi
Can anybody help please? I have a Mrs Ellen Smith who died sometime between 1938 and 1945 in Lower Edmonton London, would anyone know where the nearest cemetery would be to Victoria Road  lower edmonton, and how I could find out if she was buried there. Thanks
Sandy

There is a cemetery in (I think it's) Church Street, Edmonton N9.  You could try there.  Jan

I can't promise but you might find out by contacting Enfield Civic Centre as I have maps of St. James Church, Enfield Highway that were obtained from there. The map gives plot numbers and who was buried there and when.

If you would like me to check to see if your relatives are buried there, just let me know roughly when and their names. I actually have a few Smiths buried there myself.

Hi Sandy, Catwomen, Janetteo
Saw this post with your Smith's.
I also have a Smith line i am trying to trace and wondered if you might be from it,
I am trying to trace Susannah Smith, nee Rice and Christopher ( Chris) Smith they married in London in the early 1900. they went on to have 8 children Daisy, William,Alfred, Catherine, Fanny, Emily, Charlotte, Nellie.
Dose this family ring any bells with any of you.
Thank you .

Hi William,

My Smiths come from Old Cleeve in Somerset and settled in Enfield. I don't know of a Christopher from the generation for the time you are speaking, but I will check again. We have 3 branches of Smiths in our family and I haven't had a chance to check out the other Smiths yet.

Good Luck in your search

Hi
Thanks for the kind offer of help. My situation is a little complicated as the Smiths I am looking for are of no relation. My mother was born illegitimate with her twin sister in 1925 and adopted out as babies. They were born in hackney workhouse and in the workhouse register where it asks for next of kin it had the name Mrs. Ellen Smith (friend) Victoria road lower Edmonton. I found her in the electoral register for that year at that address and also with a George smith Ronald smith and Edward smith and she appeared in the registers for many years after. She then disappears off the register after 1945 (presumably died) I have no way of knowing what relation these smiths are to each other, so have been unable to trace any of them. So my next step was to maybe find out where Ellen Smith was buried and take it from there. I will be grateful for any help or suggestions anyone may have. thanks once again
Sandy
