Hi,
As a further attempt at elimination I have checked for a marriage using the spelling Smith to a bride called Susan around 1894 with no success.

Regards
Stewart, Irwin, Morrison, Haslett, Murrell - Dungiven area Co. Londonderry
Browne, Barrett -Co.Armagh
Neil, Smyth _Co. Antrim

Think the logical next step is to find mother's maiden name from one of the children's birth certificates.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Yep!  The two children born in Warrington are Stephen and Lydia.  Stephen was my grandfather.  I'm trying to find his birth date at the moment.   It seems the best way to go.  Great push in the right direction thanks...

Right, can't find Stephen Smyth anywhere but Lydia has a birth certificate number.  So I've pulled in a favour  and sent somebody into the warrington registry office to see firstly if they'll look for Stephen -because I would like his birth cert - and then if not to get Lydia's.

Looked at the loughbrickland site that you sent me............ and decided that I have to go.

thanks karen

Yeah! A result.

Susan's maiden name is mcClean.

So it looks like we got the marriage clue first. What next!

Thanks a million Karen

Hi againEveryone

Got a copy of Stephen's birth certificate and Susan has registered the birth herself and spelt  Smyth (Smith) and spelt McClean (McLean) I do know its them because Stephen was born at home and its the correct address.  34 Forster St.

How can I now get a copy of the marriage cert that kingskerswell has found...
Samuel Smyth and Susan McClean
Felt Street Salvation Army
Shankill.  Belfast 1st Jan 1894.

And secondly what other information can I now find out about them.

Thanks karen

Karen. I recently ordered some certificates (family research photocopies) via the GRO in Ireland. They have a website online. I am in Australia too, and found the most cost effective way to get the order was to fax a letter with the registration numbers and my credit card details directly to the registry. The certificates arrived in less than two weeks! From memory I think they are only around $5 AU each (not much at all!).

You can find the civil registration indexes online at LDS familysearch website.

Katharine.

See here for details on Irish marriage certificates and how to order them-

You'll need to get the details from the civil registration index to order the certificate-
