What makes you think he was born in Sutton in Ashfield?   I have Sutton baptsms 1578 - 1901, but no George Mead was baptised there.

When he settled in Adlington Lancashire he told family he came from Sutton in Ashfield. Most of the time he said he came from Nottingham.
On his marriage certificate in 1893 he stated his father was deceased and his name was Walter his profession was a Tackler. I think he arrived in Adlington, Chorley Lancashire in 1890 or 1891 he met and married Elizabeth Davies in 1893.
From 1893 I know it's previous to that I'm trying to trace.
